Home roofing and waterproofing in Cape Town
If your roof is leaking, your walls are damp or your roof is simply getting old, you want someone who will tell you plainly what’s wrong and fix it properly. Roof Direct does home roofing and waterproofing across Cape Town, the Helderberg and the West Coast.
We’re a family-run, owner-led business based in Cape Farms near Durbanville. Andre Smit owns the business, our foreman, Randall Swarts, has more than 20 years on roofs, and when you call or WhatsApp, Beverley in our office answers, usually within minutes.
Common problems in Cape Town homes
My house roof is leaking
A house roof leaking in winter is the most common call we get from homeowners. Most of Cape Town’s rain falls roughly from May to August, and that’s when cracked tiles, rusted sheets, tired flashings and blocked gutters show themselves. The leak is often not directly above the stain, so we trace it to the source first. If water is coming in now, we offer emergency call-outs to stop the damage, then plan a permanent repair. See roof repairs and our full range of roofing services.
An ageing roof
Older homes, especially in the Southern Suburbs, often have roofs patched for years. When leaks keep returning in different places, a roof replacement can be the better spend. We’ll tell you honestly whether a repair will do.
Damp walls and leaking balconies
Wind-driven rain soaks into cracked plaster, and balconies above rooms leak into the ceiling below. We waterproof the outside of the house and fix the cracks and damp. See our waterproofing services.
Getting the roof ready for solar
If you’re planning solar, sort the roof out first, because lifting panels later to fix a leak adds cost. Panels can’t be mounted on asbestos cement at all, so an asbestos roof needs replacing before the installer arrives. See solar on asbestos roofs.
Faded roofs and tired walls
Strong summer sun and salt air near the coast, from the Atlantic Seaboard to Blouberg and the Southern Peninsula, wear down paint. We fix cracks and damp first, then paint. See roof painting and interior and exterior painting.
Asbestos roofs and ceilings in older homes
Many homes built before asbestos was banned in 2008 still have asbestos cement roofs, gutters or ceiling boards. Only an accredited laboratory test can confirm that a material contains asbestos, so until you know, don’t cut, drill or sand it. Asbestos removal and encapsulation is carried out by our sister company, Indi Maintenance Services, a Registered Asbestos Contractor (Type 2), certificate 2025RAC/CI-180, valid until 26 August 2028. Indi quotes the asbestos work, and Roof Direct quotes and installs your new roof or ceiling, so you have one point of contact throughout. See our asbestos services.

Most of our work is for businesses and body corporates, and homeowners get the same standard: Andre or Randall oversees your job, and the guarantee terms are written into your quote.
