Roofing contractors for commercial, sectional title and home roofs
Roof Direct is an owner-led roofing company based in Cape Farms, near Durbanville. Andre Smit runs the business, and our foreman, Randall Swarts, brings more than 20 years in the trade to every site. Most of our work is for factories, warehouses, offices and body corporates, and we bring the same standards to family homes.
Calls and WhatsApp messages come straight to Beverley in our office, and we usually reply within minutes. The inspection, the quote and the roofing work itself are all handled by our own team, so the people who assess your roof are the people who fix it, and there’s no handover between a salesperson and a crew you’ve never met.
Repair, replace or maintain?
Not every problem needs a new roof. At the inspection we’ll give you an honest view of three options:
- Roof repairs and leak detection when the problem is local and the rest of the roof is sound. We find the real source of the leak, which is often some distance from the stain on the ceiling.
- Roof replacement when leaks keep returning, sheets are rusting through, tiles are failing across the roof, or the structure underneath has given way.
- Roof maintenance plans for buildings where regular inspections and small repairs prevent bigger bills, which suits body corporates and commercial property managers.
Roofs we work on
- Metal sheeting: IBR, corrugated and Klip-Lok profiles, with sheeting from Youngman Roofing and Safintra.
- Standing seam: concealed-fix metal roofs for modern and low-pitch buildings.
- Concrete and clay tiles: common on homes and sectional title complexes.
- Slate: natural slate roofs, repaired or replaced with care.
- Flat concrete roofs: combined with flat roof waterproofing.
- Asbestos cement roofs: removed by our registered sister company and replaced by us. See asbestos roof replacement.
Gutters, fascias and roof structure
A roof is only as good as the parts around it. We replace gutters and fascias with Brink and uPVC gutters, and deal with box gutters as part of our waterproofing work. See gutters and fascias. Where trusses or timbers have failed, we rebuild the structure using Pryde trusses before the new roof goes on.
Built for Cape Town weather
Cape Town gets most of its rain in winter, roughly May to August, so roofs are best repaired or replaced in the drier months before it arrives. The south-easter tests loose sheets and ridges every summer, and near the coast salt air shortens the life of metal sheets, fixings and flashings. We choose materials and fixings with your location in mind, and coat or paint roofs where that will add years. See roof painting.
Roofing for commercial and industrial sites
Large roofs need planning as much as skill. On commercial and industrial projects we draft the health and safety file, use working-at-heights compliant teams, use rope access where scaffolding isn’t practical, and plan the work in sections around your operations. See commercial and industrial roofing and safety and compliance.
Roofing for body corporates and homeowners
For sectional title complexes, we give trustees an itemised quote they can table, keep residents informed, and leave the building with the paperwork it needs on record. See body corporate roofing. For homeowners, we explain the options in plain terms and leave the site tidy. See roofing for homes.
